Our week for December 2-6 2024

 

Wednesday December 4 is PYJAMA DAY @ Rick Hansen PS!  Bring a stuffie too!  

It is also Walk to school.  There will be whole school outdoor DPA at 9:20 am for 20 minutes.  Please be dressed to walk outside.


Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.

2) Library is on Thursday Day 4 of our cycle.

3) Recognition Assembly is on Thursday December 5 @ 11:30am.  Those who are receiving an award have been notified with an invite in your child's agenda.  We recognized the character traits of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and PERSEVERANCE.  Congratulations to all those who received an award.  We are learning to make good choices even if no one is watching.

4) Our Reading Log for December went home.  Please continue to read and log and when completed bring back to school signed too.

5) Our December newsletter was emailed out through EDSBY.  Please take a moment to read over our learning goals for December.  Later on this month a SKIP Counting package will be coming home to support your child's learning.  

6) Please dress your child for the weather.  We are outside for 2 recesses weather permitting. 

Extra mitts in their backpacks will be beneficial for when our first pair gets wet at first recess. 🧀

7) Our MWW words for Lesson # 40 are: Short 'e' words and πŸ’“words

Our sentences are: 

1. I have ten pet hens. 2. Can you get a red pen?

Our Decodable passage is called The Pet Hen. Please put in their Blue Reading Folder at home.

Our worksheet is due back by Friday every week.  If your child is unable to complete at home, they are welcome to complete with me at school.  We build on our skills weekly so it is important we review and make our words work for us too.

We learned about Bullying this week, what to do about it and how we can make our world a better place by spreading KINDESS.  We are learning to think before we speak too.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

Our Decodable Passage is called Gus the Pup
(the other Decodable worksheets that come home during the week supplement our learning of that week and are to be put in their Blue Reading Folder)
Our MWW worksheet is due back by Friday too.
3) Library is on Thursday Day 4
4) Dance a-thon is on Thursday 
5) Earth Rangers Presentation is on Friday
6) Chess Club is on Day 3 for Grade 1-3 @ lunch in the Learning Commons
7) Rick Hansen Recognition Assembly is on Dec. 5 @ 11:30 in the Gym.  Those who are receiving an Award will be notified by invite in your child's agenda next week.  We have worked on the character traits of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and PERSEVERANCE.  We are learning to make good choices even if no one is watching.
 Please make sure if you drop off your child's lunch that it is dropped off by 1pm.

Our week for November 18-22, 2024

 

Thank you so much for coming to see me for your child's interview.  Your support and help with your children mean so much!  
It is Bullying Awareness Week next week (Nov.18-22).  We will learn strategies to stand up to a bully and learn Acts of Kindess too.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.

2) Our MWW words for Lesson # 38 are:  Review words

Our MWW worksheet is due back by Friday each week.  We will be reviewing Alphabetical Order this week.  Our Decodable Reader is called The Big Box. Please have them put in their BLUE Reading Folder at home and re-read at least 3-4 times during the week for phrasing and fluency.  We read this passage together as a class first.

3) Our Assessment Folders were distruted too.  Please look through all our amazing work and send back empty on Monday.  

4) Our Friday Letter went home.  Please have your child read it to you and send back on Monday.  We are learning to create sentences that make sense.  We are learning to use capitals and punctuation too.

5) Library is on Day 4 (Thursday) this week.



6) Picture Day is on Friday November 22.  If your child is unable to make it, the retake day is on 

December 13,2024.

Our week for November 11-14, 2024


On Monday November 11, 2024 we will be honouring Remembrance Day at our school.  The assembly starts at 9:30 am.  All are welcome.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1. Monday is Day 2 of our cycle.
2) We will not be having any MWW words this week as it's a short week.
3) We will not be having Library book exchange either as we have the Scholastic Book Fair this week.
Our viewing time is: Tuesday November 12 @ 10:30 am
Our buying day is: Wednesday November 13 @ 12:35 pm
4) We went home with our Poetry Folders, we are to read our poem Little Poppy with phrasing and expression and we are to fill out what PEACE is to us.  Please return on Monday.
5) We wrote our Friday Letter to a Soldier.  
6) Please don't forget to Read and Log.  We have our Decodable Reader Folder passages, poems and many decodable websites to chose from too!
7) Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.  We are outside for 2 recesses, weather permitting.  Have extra clothes at school too.
8) We had our AfroBeats classes this week.  Ask us all about it! 
9) Interviews are Thursday evening and Friday morning.  Sign up is through EDSBY.  

Moving forward any paper communication/notes/monthly newsletters from me will be sent home digitally through EDSBY.  We will be helping the environment.

Our Week for November 4-8, 2024

 Hello Grade One Families:



Welcome to November.  On Monday, EDSBY will open up so you can sign up for an interview time.  Interviews are in 10 minute blocks.   We will be coming home next week  with our Personal Learning Reflection so far in Grade One.  

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 2 of our cycle

2) Library is on Day 4

3) Scholastic Book Fair is from Nov.13- Nov.19  

We will view the Book Fair on Nov.12 and our buying time is Nov. 13 @ 12:30 am

4) Our Friday Letter went home.  We are learning to do a Recount of something that has happened.  We wrote about Halloween night.

5) Our Poetry Folder went home too.  We are to read our October Poems with expression and fluency.  

6) Wednesday is Walk to School Day and Spirit Day too- Our theme is COMFY DAY!  Wear anything that is comfortable.  

7) Our MWW words for Lesson #37 are Short 'o' and Heart Words
