Our week for May 1- May 5 (Talent Show and Basket Donations)

 Hello Grade One Families:

We will be celebrating Mental Health week.  Here is a list of what we will be doing each day.

Monday - Mindfulness (5 minute mindful minute over the PA at announcements)

Tuesday - Take care of yourself

Wednesday - Wellness (Walk to school and School Wide DPA at 11:20 - spirit day - Wear Bright Colours)

Thursday - Thoughtfulness

Friday - Focus/fun

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.  Please read below for an important note about our Talent Show Auditions and our Donations for our Classroom Basket.  This basket will be included in the 10 year anniversary party on June 8th.  All baskets will be on display outside the Learning Commons on Tuesday June 6.  

1) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle.

2) Library is Day 2 and it will be on Wednesday.

3) Our MWW words for Week # 20 are sight words and 'ell' family words

4) The theme for our classroom basket is Sleepover Party Kit- item suggestions are :

candy, chocolate, games, nail polish, face mask, eye mask, cards, bubbles, whatever you feel your children would love to do at a Sleepover Party or a money donation valued at $10.  Please have all donations brought to school by Friday May 19.  All donations are greatly appreciated.  Thank you to those who have contributed already.  

RICK HANSEN'S GOT TALENT!!!

Auditions for our Talent Show begin on Monday, May 8th! If your child has signed up for the talent show, please read the information, look at the schedule below and share with your child. This will also be explained at school!

For morning recess auditions, students who are signed up to play the piano should go to the music room at 10:50am with their snack and wait outside the music room to be called by the team of teacher judges.

For lunchtime auditions, students who are signed up to audition for anything except for the piano should go to the gym at 1pm with their lunch and wait outside the gym until the team of teacher judges arrive. They will then sit in the gym quietly during the auditions. 

Once their audition is completed they can go back to their classroom or outside following their recess schedule! Criteria for judging: talented, rehearsed/prepared, creativity/originality, overall performance.

Our week for April 24-28

 Hello Families:

Happy Eid and Ridvan to all who celebrate.  We have an exciting week ahead with our trip to the Zoo.  Today your child went home with a reminder letter.  Please read and review again with your child.  We have gone through expectations of our day and bus rules too.  I have attached the letter at the end of this post for reference.

Happy Earth Day too on Saturday April 22, 2023. 🌍

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle.  

2) Library is on Day 2 which is Wednesday.

3) Zoo trip on Tuesday April 25.  Please be on time, busses leave promptly at 9:30 am.

5) Battery Blitz ends on April 28.  Recycling boxes for used batteries are in front of the library.

Zoo Trip Update




Dear Families:


We are going to the Zoo on Tuesday Apr 25, 2023.


Here is some helpful information for you for our upcoming visit.

  1. Buses leave promptly at 9:30am.  

  2. Pack a boomerang lunch.  What we bring comes back to school with us.  Please send water, snacks and lunch in our backpacks.  We will need to wear our backpacks at the zoo.  

  3. Dress appropriately for the weather:

  1. We need appropriate footwear to walk and explore all the zoo has to offer.

  2. All Kids Kitchen hot lunches will come home with your child after school.

We did a 3 part Math Lesson on a Word Problem of what we are learning in Math.  We are learning to explain our thinking using Pictures Numbers and Words.  We are learning Part/Part Whole solutions and all the ways to make 10.  We had fun being Mathematicians today!  Ask us all about it!

Our week for April 17-21

 Hello Grade One Families:

Rick Hansen's Got Talent

Does your child have a special talent? Maybe they’re really good at dancing, singing, playing an instrument, acting, juggling, or gymnastics. Or maybe it's something else? We want to see it!!

We're excited to announce that we're reviving the Talent Show!!! On May 25th during the school day, we're hosting Rick Hansen’s Got Talent!

Students are invited to audition for our Talent Show during the second week of May. Please help your child start getting their talent performance ready!! This can be, but not limited to, dancing, singing, acting, playing an instrument, etc. All performances must be live (no videos).


We'll have 4 divisions: kindergarten, primary, junior and intermediate. The criteria for talent is: talented, rehearsed/prepared, creativity/originality and overall performance. Each division will have between 3-5 performances.

There will be TWO shows: one during the school day for all to watch on May 25th and the second show will be at our 10-year anniversary Celebration on June 8th from 4-7pm.

Let’s show our talent at our Rick Hansen’s Got Talent Show!!!​  

There will be a sign up sheet that will be available on Monday April 17.  Sign up will be at 1pm in the Gym.

We will be celebrating Earth Day all week long.  We will learn the 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).  We will learn how to respect the environment, objects, animals and people too.  Earth Day is on Saturday April 22, 2023.  🌎  Rick Hansen will be collecting used batteries until April 28.  Recycling boxes are right outside the library.

Our week for April 11-14

 Hello families:

Today we went home with our Playground structures.  We learned lots by problem solving and being an engineer to build strong and stable structures.  I am so proud of all of them!  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) No school Friday April 7 (Good Friday) and Monday April 10 (Easter Monday)

2) Tuesday is Day 1 of our cycle

3)There will be no MWW words for next week.  It's a short week. :)

4) Library is on Wednesday Day 2

5) Wednesday April 12 is International Day of PINK.  The International Day of Pink is a day when communities across Canada and across the world unite to celebrate diversity and raise awareness about the need to stop homophobia, transphobia, discrimination and all forms of bullying. On this annual day in April, individuals wear pink to show respect for diversity and to demonstrate support for learning and working environments which are safe and inclusive of people from all different backgrounds. International Day of Pink is intended to create a more inclusive and diverse world.

6) We are collecting your used and old batteries until April 28.
