Our week for Sept 30 - Oct. 4, 2024

Hello Grade One Families: We will be wearing ORANGE on Monday September 30 to honour 

Every Child Matters

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle and it's Library

2) Our Poetry Folder went home yesterday.  We worked on a poem called Our School Pledge. We are learning to read with phrasing and expression.  We might need your help to read some words but we definitely can choral read and are learning about rhyming words.  Please return the folder on Monday with it signed with their signature too.

3) Our Friday Letter went home.  We are now using a graphic organizer to produce a Recount.  Please have your child read it to you and sign, return on Monday too.

4) Tuesday is Meet the Staff Night.  BBQ starts at 6pm and classroom visits are from 6:30-7:30 pm.  Hope to see you all there.  

5) 

Our Terry Fox Walk is on Wednesday October 3.  Please dress for the weather as we will be outside weather permitting for our walk.

For all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah 'shanah tovah umtukah'

I will also be submitting the Scholastic order next week.  If you would like to submit, I will be placing the order on Tuesday October 1.

Our week for September 23-26, 2024

 Hello Grade One Families:

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day, also known as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It's a day of observance for all Canadians to reflect on the ongoing effects of residential schools and to honour the experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.

We will wear orange to support EVERY CHILD MATTERS.
 

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Friday September 27 is a PA DAY.  There is no school that day.

2) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle (Gym Days are 2 & 5) 

3) We will not have Library next week.  We will have Library on Monday September 30 (Day 4) 

4) Please send lots of snacks, we are growing and learning lots every day. 

5) We are only bringing home our BEE bags if we have a note or work in it.  We are still waiting for our Agendas to arrive.  We went home today with our Friday Letter.  Please read with your child and return on Monday.

Save the date:  Tuesday October 1, 2024.  

BBQ starts at 6pm-6:30pm.  Meet the Teacher is from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Our week for Sept. 16-20

Hello Grade One Families:

We have been busy and learning lots in Grade One.  We are learning to be a Classroom Community.  Below are our agreements.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle.

2) Library books are due back Day 4 ( Friday)

3) Pick up at the end of the day for our WALKERS is Line D.  We will make our way out to LINE D, only if inclement weather will we dismiss from inside DOOR C.  

4) We went home with our Friday Letter today, please help read with your child, sign and return on Monday.

5)Please complete and return their STARS on Monday, September 16. We are going to show and share our STARS on Tuesday.

6) We have started our Special Me program.  One child is drawn every 2 weeks.  They are allowed to bring a show and share on DAY 1 (family photos/favourite toy) only on Day 1.  Look out at the end of their 2 week period for a SPECIAL ME book. :)

Our week for September 9-13

Hello Grade One Families:

Here are some reminders for our 2nd week of Grade 1 Fun!

1) Your child went home with a Red Duotang called FRIDAY LETTER.  In it is a parent note explaining why we do it.  Please help support your child read it, sign it and return every Monday in their GREY BEE BAG.

2) Please return the GREY BEE BAG daily as we will put important Grade One notes in it.  

3) We also went home with our LIBRARY BAGS.  Our Library Day is Day 4 each cycle.  Please enjoy reading picture books with your child.  Our Reading Program will be starting shortly.  More information about our Reading at school/home will go home shortly.  Please stay tuned.

4) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle and it's Gym.  Please have appropriate footwear to participate.  Our Gym Days are 2 & 5.

5) Please return as soon as possible GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CHILD paper to school.  

6) Please send lots of healthy snacks, we are growing and get hungry as we learn lots. :)

Welcome Back to School!

 

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Grade One! I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year and am looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and fun. Starting a new school year is always an exciting time, and I’m honored to be a part of your child’s journey as they embark on this important milestone.

In our classroom, we will be focusing on creating a positive, nurturing environment where each student feels valued and motivated to do their best. We’ll explore many new concepts in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, while also fostering creativity, critical thinking, and social skills.

Communication is key to ensuring a successful year, and I want to work together with you to support your child's education.  On the first day of school, your child will be bringing a BEE Bag (Bring Everything Everyday) to school bag home.  In it, will be a letter to support our communication this year.  This bag is to be returned every day to school.

To help make the first few days of school smooth for everyone, please make sure your child comes to school with the following:

• A healthy snack and lunch
• A water bottle
• Indoor shoes marked with their name inside
• Extra clothes in a clear ziplock labelled with their name on it (to be left at school for occassional accidents or if we get wet or muddy) 😄
• Any completed forms or paperwork that were sent home

Thank you for entrusting me with your child’s education. I am looking forward to a fantastic year filled with learning adventures. Together, we can make this year a wonderful and successful experience for your child.
