Our week for May 11-15, 2026

 

We did not do a Friday letter today; we completed our cards for our lovely moms!

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 1 and it's Library
2) Please have your children dressed to be outside for 2 recesses, weather permitting, and check to see if their indoor shoes still fit.
3) Yearbook orders are due by May 14.  Yearbooks can be ordered on School Cash Online.

Our week for May 4-8, 2026

 


We will be engaging in fun activities all week during recess.  πŸ˜ƒ

It's Walk to School Day on Wednesday, May 6, and it's a SPIRIT DAY TOO!  Wear SPRING colours!

We will be having whole-school DPA too at 9:20 am, so please make sure we are dressed to be outside.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.


LUNCH DROP-OFF: If you drop off your child's lunch, please make sure it is here by 1pm.  We eat from 1 to 1:30pm and are outside, weather permitting, from 1:30 to 2pm.  

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle, and there is NO library as there is an event taking place. 

2) We did not have a Friday letter this week; we wrote our April recount instead.  Please look at all the amazing work in our assessment folder and send it back to school empty on Monday.  

3) We went home this week with our May Reading Log.  Please continue to read and log.  April reading logs will be accepted until the end of this week.

4) Our May newsletter was sent out via EDSBY.  Please take a look and see all the amazing work we will be engaging in.  We also went home with our Assessment Folder.  All items can be kept at home.

We had a great week learning about Earth  🌎and how we can help by reducing, reusing, and recycling!


Yearbook orders are now on sale on School Cash Online.  The order deadline is May 14!

We will be celebrating Earth Day every day! Happy Earth Day on April 22!
We will wear BLUE or GREEN on Wednesday to celebrate our EARTH!

It's Movie Night at Rick Hansen PS on Thursday, April 16. All tickets/items were on sale via School Cash Online. 


Dental screenings will take place this week for all Grade 2 students or if you have requested a check.

Our week for April 7-10, 2026

 

Happy Easter to all who celebrate. Please note there is no school on Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6. School will resume on Tuesday, April 7. 

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Tuesday is Day 3 of our cycle

2) Friday is Library (Day 1)

3) Wednesday, April 8, is International Day of Pink.


The International Day of Pink (April 8, 2026) is a global anti-bullying and anti-discrimination event where kids wear pink to stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and promote kindness. Originating in Canada in 2007, it empowers youth to celebrate diversity, challenge social norms, and stop bullying.

4) We do not have any MWW words this week as it's a short week.

5) We went home with our poetry folder. We are to complete the poetry activity sheet and return back on Monday.

Our week for March 30-April 2, 2026

No school on Friday, April 3, or Monday, April 6. School will resume on Tuesday, April 7. It is Easter weekend.


To all who celebrate Easter, have a very HOPPY EASTER! 🐰

To all who celebrate Passover, have a happy Passover too!



We will celebrate World Autism Day on Thursday, April 2. We will learn it's ok to be different.


Spirit Day on Wednesday, April 1! It's tie-dye or multicoloured day!  
It's also walk to school too! Please dress for the weather, as we will be having whole-school DPA too!

March Break is from March 16 to 20; school resumes on Monday, March 23.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

3) We went home with our poetry booklet this week. Attached was a Poetry Cafe note and rubric. Please help your child practice one of the poems learned in class to present orally to me after the March Break.
4) We went home with our Friday Letter and our Assessment Folder. Please look through all our amazing work and send both back after the break. We are working on our Term 2 targets for all curriculum areas.
5) Scholastic orders are due by March 27.
6) Yearbook cover contest is due by March 27.

Don't forget to move your clocks ⏰ ahead one hour on Saturday night! It's daylight saving time!

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.

2) Library is on Thursday (Day 1)

3) Gym is on Day 1 and Day 4. Please make sure we have appropriate footwear to participate.

4) Our Recognition Assembly is on Wednesday, March 11, at 11:30 am in the Gym. Those receiving an award have already been notified. The parking lot will be closed, so please park around the perimeter of the school.


5) Our yearbook cover contest is due by March 27. Please refer to the EDSBY message for further details.

Pink Shirt Day is on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.  Pink Shirt Day, observed on the last Wednesday of February, is a global anti-bullying initiative where kids wear pink to promote kindness and inclusivity and stand against bullying.

Our week for February 17-20, 2026

 

There is no school on Monday. Wishing you all a very happy Family Day on Monday!  Have fun making memories with your children.  

If you could help your child bring in an empty cereal box for next week, we'd appreciate it, as we are doing a fun activity with our Grade 7/8 buddies!

4) We went home with our Friday Letter, Poetry Folder, and Assessment Folder.  Please look at all the amazing work we have done and send it all back on Tuesday.  Work in the Assessment Folder can be kept at home.  We are now in Term 2.

Our Winter Walk Day is on Friday, February 20.  Join us at the Johnathan Bales Parkette parking lot at 8:25 am and discover how fun walking to school can be. An email was sent out via our school about this event.  This event also marks the start of our participation in the active school travel program.  Please refer to the email if you would like to learn more.  

6) On Friday, February 20, we will be participating in a mini Winter Olympics at Rick Hansen PS in the morning.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to participate in outdoor rotations.

Our week for February 9-13, 2026

 



We will be celebrating 100 days of school on Thursday, February 12.  We will be engaging in learning activities around the number 100.  Ask us all about it on Thursday night!

We will be having a Valentine card exchange on Friday, February 13.  Our friends' names were in our February newsletter that was emailed to us via EDSBY.  

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

2) Library is on Wednesday (Day 1)

3) We will not be having any MWW words next week as we are celebrating 100 days of school!

Our week for February 2-6, 2026

 

I sent out via EDSBY our February newsletter and a list of our Valentine friends.  Please refer to that email for all our names if your child would like to distribute cards.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle.

2) Library is on Wednesday (Day 1)

3) Wednesday is Walk to School Day, and it's a SPIRIT DAY too!  It's WEAR RED, WHITE, OR PINK DAY!

We will be having a whole school DPA at 9:20, so please have your child dressed to be outside and on time for school that day too.
4) We went home with our Friday letter and our assessment folder.  Please look through all the amazing work we have done and return back to school on Monday.  Our next assessment folder will have some mid-year rubrics and learning targets for Term 2.  
5) Please look at your child's agenda every night, as items can change and pertinent information goes in there too.  We are learning to have all the necessary materials to be successful for our day.
