Hello Grade One Families:
Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. We are outside weather permitting for 2 recesses.
On April 9th, 2025, the International Day of Pink, a day to show solidarity against bullying and discrimination, especially towards the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, will be observed, encouraging kids and everyone to wear pink and promote kindness.
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.
2) Tuesday is Library (Day 4)
3) Our MWW words for Lesson # 51 are 'ng' words and Heart words

Our Decodable passage is called King and Ash Sing
Our worksheet is due back by Friday.
4) Please speak with your child about snacks/lunches. We're growing and get hungry. The school is presently seeking a new vendor for our snack program so for the next few weeks the school is limited for extra snacks.
5) We went home with our Friday letter. Please send back on Monday.

Our week for March 24 - 28, 2025
Hello Grade One Families:
It's finally Spring! Please make sure your child has new indoor clothes and check with them to see if their indoor shoes still fit.
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.
2) Our MWW words for Lesson # 49 are: Digraphs Review #1 (we will not be having a dictation on Friday) We are reviewing (ck, sh, th words) and 💓 words from the last few weeks.
Our MWW worksheet is due back by Friday.
Our Decodable Passage is called Snacks for the Pets
Please help support your child read this passage 3-4 times/week to improve fluency and rate. Asking comprehension questions too like:
a) What happened at the beginning/middle/end of the story?
b) Who are the characters in this story? Where is the setting?
c) What's the plot? Was there a problem? If so, how was it solved?
d) Do you like this story? Why/why not?
e) Do you have any connections to this story? (another story/personal experience)?
Get your child to Think it and then say it orally in complete sentences too. If you want more extentions, have them write their thoughts in a Home Journal.
3) Library is on Tuesday (Day 4). Please return Library books in the large ziplock bag.
4) We went home with our Friday Letter and our Assessment Folder too. Please look at all our amazing work and return both on Monday. The Assessment folder can be returned empty.
5) Our Rick Hansen Recognitions Assembly will be held on Thursday March 27th @ 11:20 am. All recipients have received their inviations already. Assembly is in the Gym. Congratulations to all receiving an award.
We had fun being engineers this week. We have gone home with our playgrounds. All materials went back home too. Thank you for all your support. 😀

Our week for March 17-21, 2025
1) March Break is from March 10-14. There is no school. Students have gone home with their indoor shoes and their extra clothes too. Please make sure they all still fit and return March 17.
2) School resumes Monday March 17 (Day 3) Wear Green too! It's St. Patrick's Day!
3) Library is on Tuesday (Day 4) Please remember to bring back their books. Don't forget to Read and Log too!
4) Our MWW words for Lesson # 48 are: 'ch' words and Heart words

Our Sentences are: 1. We chat at lunch. 2. That was such a fun walk!
Our Decodable Passage is called Chips and Dip Please have your child read this passage 3-4 times during the week for fluency and comprehension.
Our worksheet is due back by Friday.
5) We have Gym Day 2 and Day 5. We need appropriate footwear to participate.
6) We will be building our playgrounds this week. I do have some materials the students are able to use, however, bringing reusable materials from home will support our creativity. We have learned about fasteners, so if you are able to send in some tape/glue that would be so appreciative.

Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday March 9- Change clocks ahead one hour.
