Our first week of 2020!

Hello Families:
I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy holiday season and a very Happy New Year too!  We had a very eventful week and are excited about the holidays.  We had fun presenting our timelines and learning about each other too!
Here are some reminders for our first week back in January.
1) The first day back is Monday, January 6, 2020
2) Monday, January 6 is a Day 1 of our cycle
3) Our M.W.W. words for this week, Week #9 are (sight words and 'ot' family words)

The activity sheet will be given out on Monday and due back by Friday
4) Poetry Folder went home today and the activity sheet is due January 6, 2020.  All of our poems are there too for some additional reading over the holidays.  Poems are a great way to build expression and phrasing in our reading.
5) Assessment Folders went home today.  Please go through it with your child and return on January 6, 2020
6) Please make sure we have extra clothes at school for those occasional accidents and make sure your child's indoor shoes still fit.  We are growing like weeds!
7) Our Electives Day is on Wednesday, January 13.  We are going skating.  IF you still have not submitted a permission form, please note that payment is no longer available on school cash online.  YOU have to pay cash at the office. Exact change please.  The cost is $5.50.  If you need another permission form, please let me know.

Reminders for the week of Dec. 16-20

Hello Families:
Thank you for sending in photos for their Timelines.  We have worked hard on creating them and are excited to present them to our classmates this coming week.  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.
2) Wednesday is Walk to School Day and PYJAMA DAY too!  If you drive your child to school and weather permitting, think about parking a few streets away and enjoying some quality time walking a few blocks with them.  Try skip counting as you walk....:)
3) Tuesday and Thursday is Tuck Shop.  Popcorn and healthy snacks are sold for $1
4) We will be continuing with our Number Week #2 for our M.W.W. words they are:

The activity sheet will be due by Friday

Reminders for the week of Dec. 9-13

Hello Families:
Welcome to Snow!  Please make sure that your child has 2 pairs of mitts so that if one is wet, we can still play at lunch.  Extra socks too please. 
1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.
2) Our Timeline photos are due on Monday December 9.  If you do not have any photos, please speak with your child about important events in their lives and they will be able to draw it. 
3) We will be having our first Number week for our M.W.W. words.  They are:
     zero     one   two   three   four   five   six   seven   eight   nine    ten
4) We will be having a Skate Sale on Tuesday, December 10 right after school until 6pm. 
5) Our Holiday Concert is Tuesday, December 10 at 6:30 pm.  If you are able to come that night, we are asking that the children assemble in their classrooms by 6:15pm the latest.  After our performance we will return to our classrooms for pick up when the concert is over..
6) Please wear RAINBOW COLOURS for our performance.
7/ Our Poetry Folders went home today they are to read the poem and complete the activity sheet and return on Monday.
8) READ READ and READ some more.  We are building our expression by noticing punctuation.

reminders for the week of Dec. 2-6

Welcome to December!  Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather as we are outside for 2 recesses, weather permitting.  Having extra mitts and socks in their backpacks will be beneficial.  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle
2) Popcorn and healthy snacks are sold for $1 on Tuesday and Thursday at first recess
3) December newsletter will go home on Monday
4) We went home with our Assessment Folders today.  Please take a moment and go through all the work we have done and return the folder on Monday
5) We went home with our Song sheet "Somewhere over the Rainbow" we are encouraging them to practise at home for our upcoming Winter Concert.
6) Our Winter Concert is on Tuesday, December 10 at our school.  It begins at 6:30pm.  We are asking that the children come to school by 6:15 pm to assemble in their classrooms.  We are also asking them to wear Rainbow Colours too.  There is a Skate Sale prior to the concert too!  Information about our Winter Concert also went out in the E-Blast as well.
7) Our M.W.W. words for week #8 are :  sight words and 'ick' family words

8) Please collect 5 photos of your child so that they can use for their Timeline project.  You can always email them to me and I can print up at school.  If you do not have any photos please help your child decide upon 5 important events and they can draw a picture of that event.  Photos are due to school by Monday, December 9.

Reminders for the week of Nov. 25-29

Hello Families:
We are entering our last week of November!  Wow, time is flying by.  We have been skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.  We put our thinking on a number line.  At home, you can start skip counting at a given number and end on another number.  We will show our thinking by jumping to each number with a curved line.  We will put the number under the line too.  It's fun!
Here are some other reminders for the upcoming week:
1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle
2) M.W.W. worksheet will be due by Friday.  Our words for week #7 are:

3) Please make sure that we have extra mitts and socks.  We love playing in the snow and our socks seem to always get wet.
4) Read read and read some more.  We have grown so much and are using our strategies to sound out and spell unknown words too!
5) Popcorn will be sold on Thursday for $1 at recess starting this week.  After this week, we will have Popcorn and various other healthy options sold for $1 every Tuesday/Thursday.  Thanks to our HEAT Team!
6) Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  We are outside weather permitting for 2 recesses.
7) Library will be on Friday, Day 5 of our cycle.

reminders for the week of Nov. 18-22

Hello Families:
It was a pleasure to meet with all of you over the past 2 days.  I am enjoying every minute with your children!  Please make sure you return the brown envelope that your report card came in so that I can put Term 1 in it, in February.
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

reminders for the week of Nov.11-15

Hello Families:
We will be having a Remembrance Day Assembly on November 11th at our school. We will proudly wear our poppies.  Lest we forget.
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 2 of our cycle.
2) Our Poetry Folder went home today.  We learned a Poem called 'Little Poppy' the activity sheet is due back on Monday.
3) Assessment Folders went home today as well.  Please take some time with your child to view all their wonderful work they have been doing.  You can take all the work out that is on the KEEP side.  Please return the folder on Monday.
4) We wrote our Friday Letter too.  We are building on our Recounts of our week.
5) Picture Retake Day is on November 13
6) No M.W.W. words this week, it's a short week.
7) Library is on Thursday Day 5 of our cycle.
8) Scholastic Book Fair is at our school next week.  Come by after your interviews.
9) Please sign up for interviews on EDSBY- Thursday evening and Friday morning slots are available.  Progress Reports will be going home on Wednesday November 13.
10) We will be engaging in Fire Prevention Week at school and doing various learning around Fire Safety at school and at home.

Week of Nov.4-8

Hello Families:
Welcome to November.  With the change in month comes the change in weather.  Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather.  We are outside weather permitting for 2 recesses.  We also went home with our Assessment Folders today.  Please take some time over the weekend to review your child's work with them.  We always have conferences with how we are doing and our next steps.  I am proud of how far we have come and we are working on our learning goals on a daily basis.  Please return the folder on Monday.  Progress Reports are due to go out on Wednesday, November 13 and Interviews are to be held on Thursday, November 14 after school and evening and Friday, November 15 in the am.  Please note that Progress Reports are an excerpt of our learning so far.  You can sign up for an interview on EDSBY.

We had a great time at the farm today!  I hope you like their little pumpkins.  We picked them ourselves!  Ask us about what we did today.  Try asking us in a recount.  What we did ....first, then, next and finally.

reminders for the week of Oct. 22-25

Please note that Monday is a PA Day and there is NO SCHOOL.  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Tuesday is Day 3 of our cycle.
2) Wednesday is TAKE ME OUTSIDE DAY.  We will be engaging in outdoor activities in the afternoon.  Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather that day.
3) Library is on Thursday Day 5 of our cycle
4) We are going on our class trip to Strawberry Creek Farm on Friday October 25.  
Please have in your child's backpack:
- a litterless lunch and snacks
-water bottle
- dress appropriately for the weather, (we are spending a lot of time outdoors)
-Rainboots or Winter boots will be appropriate footwear.  Running shoes are not recommended.
-if needed hats/mitts/ coat- please watch the weather forecast
Please be on time that day.  Buses leave promptly at 9:30 am 
-we will return back to school around 3pm
-if you have been chosen to assist our class, the notice was put in their agenda on Friday October 18
5) There will be no M.W.W. words this week, it's a short week
6) Read, read and keep on reading.  Spending time with your child is truly invaluable!

Reminders for the week of Oct. 15-18

Hello Families!
Today your child went home with an Assessment Folder.  Please take some time with your child and review all the wonderful work we have done.  I have already spoken to them about their strengths and next steps too...:).  Please return the folder on Tuesday.
If you have not paid for the Arts Program, please do as soon as possible on school cash on-line.  The payment was due this week.
Here are some reminders for the upcoming week.
1) There is no school on Monday
2) There will be NO M.W.W. words next week, it's a short week :)
3) Tuesday is Day 4 of our cycle
4) Wednesday will be Library
5) Thursday is WEAR PURPLE DAY!  It's our first Spirit Day of the year!
6) Friday is WEAR YOUR RICK HANSEN HOUSE COLOUR DAY!  All the students have been placed in house colours and are to wear the colour of their house that day.  We will write our house and house colour in our agenda next week.  It also is posted in our classroom.  It will also be our first PRIDE ASSEMBLY too!  
7) Our annual FOOD DRIVE will begin on Tuesday.  We will be collecting food items for 2 weeks.

3) Tuesday is Library day too.  We are learning to read for meaning and expression. Keep up the nightly reading at home and don't forget to log it as well.

reminders for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 4

Hello Families;
It was so lovely to see all of  you on Thursday night.  The children were so happy they could share their classroom with you.  The package that was sent home has all the pertinent information regarding our programming throughout the year.  Please note that the planning could change based on our learning needs as we grow and learn together.  Here are some helpful reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle and it is WEAR ORANGE DAY.  We will be wearing orange because every child matters!
2) Tuesday is Day 5 and it's Library day!  Your child will be coming home with one picture book and one levelled reader.  Please try and read for a minimum of 10-20 minutes nightly.
3) Wednesday is Walk to school day, please consider parking your car farther away and walk your child to school.  Have fun chatting together too.
4) We will be engaging in Bus Safety on Friday.  Ask us about it on Friday night.

Reminders for the week of Sept. 23

Hello Families:
Today in your child's Bee bag their Poetry Folder went home.  It is to be completed and returned on Tuesday.  Please have your child read their Friday Letter too.  We focused on who we played with this week. 
Here are some other reminders for the upcoming week.
1) No school on Monday )
2) Tuesday is Day 5 of our cycle and it's Library day.  Keep logging their reading with filling up the 10 frame too.  Levelled Readers will be sent home next week with a picture book.  A reading note will be with it for recommendations for your child as well as Board expectations by the end of Grade One.  
3) Our Terry Fox Walk is on Thursday, September 26 in the morning.  Please dress your child appropriately for the weather that day. 
4) We are asking for Toonies for Terry if you are able.  All proceeds go to Cancer Research.
5) There are online donations available through school cash online.
6) Curriculum night is on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 6-7pm.  All are welcome and come and see what is happening in Room 214!

Reminders for the week of Sept.16-20th

Hello Families!
We finished our first full week of Grade One!  We are getting used to our schedule and our routines.  Here are some helpful reminders for our upcoming week.  Remember that the Sharing Star is due on Monday, September 16, 2019.

1) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle and it's Library Day!  Please return the library book in the bag and don't forget to fill in the bookmark too. :)
2) We wrote our Friday Letter today.  Please remember to read it with your child and comment too :)  Please return it on Monday.
3) On Monday you will receive a Folder called M.W.W. (Making Words Work).  In it are our words of the week.  The activity sheet is given on Monday and is due on Friday.  There will be NO dictation of the words at the end of the week.  We will be working with the words in various activities throughout the week.  There will be no M.W.W. words on short weeks.  Those are weeks with PA days or holidays.

4) Please have your child dress for the weather.  We are outside for 2 recesses weather permitting.
5) Save the dates:

Pledges are ONLY accepted on-line and it is our hope that each student brings in a Toonie for Terry.  Pledges and donations are being accepted until Wednesday, October 2, 2019.  An email was sent out on Sept.10 with a link to donate.
Curriculum Night- Thursday, September 26 from 6-7pm.
Orange Shirt Day- September 30.  Orange shirt day is the legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school.  It grew out of Phyllis' Story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission.  We wear Orange that day to remember and keep the discussion going to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying.
6) PA Day- Monday, September 23, 2019.  No school that day.

News for our second week of school!

We had a great first week of Grade One.  We learned about rules and routines. It may seem overwhelming right now, but soon routines will set in.  We also met our new teachers and new friends.  Today I sent home our Timetable.  We work on a 5 Day Cycle.  Not Monday to Friday.  I will always update on the blog for you what day of the cycle it will be on Monday.  Also read the AGENDA every night to keep you updated on any events or reminders for Library books etc.
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1)  Monday is Day 5 of our cycle and we'll be going to the Library
2) Please make sure you have signed and sent in the Book of Forms, Verification Form, Gym note and $5 for an agenda by Monday, September 9.    Agendas are an essential part of our communication this year.
3) We wrote our Friday Letter today in class.  Please make sure to read with your child and return on Monday. 
4) Save the date:  Our annual Terry Fox Walk is on Thursday, September 26.  More to follow.

Welcome to Grade One!

Hello and happy September.  I am so happy to have your children in my class and am looking forward to an exciting year getting to know you and your child.  Here are a few helpful reminders to make a smooth transition for the next few weeks.  It may seem overwhelming for you and your child right now but soon routine will set in. 

1) AGENDAS are an essential part of our communication this year.  They are purchased at school for $5.  CASH only please.  We will be using these daily and starting this week.  
2) SCHOOL FORMS were sent home on the first day of school.  Please review all and fill in the appropriate locations.  They are due back by Monday, September 9.
3) My parent newsletter was sent home on the first day of school too, please read and keep as a reference.  It explains a lot of expectations.  I will not be sending home a monthly calendar.  You will be receiving newsletters on our programming monthly and at the beginning of every unit we do in all subject areas. 
4) You will be receiving a parent questionnaire later this week and our daily timetable.  Please fill out and send back to school the week of September 9. 
5) If your child takes the bus, they will  be receiving a bus tag that will be put on their backpack.  All grade ones who take the bus will be escorted daily by the Grade 8's to their bus at the end of the day.
6) If your child is being picked up by you or another caregiver, please be at the Primary Doors by 3:40pm daily. If your child is not picked up by 3:55 pm they will be escorted to the office for pick up.
7) Our school day starts promptly at 9:10am and ends at 3:40pm. 
8) If you have a change in routine, please do not hesitate to inform me.  You can reach me via email

it's our last week of school June 24-27!

Dear Families:
Please note that there will be no more Greek/Pizza lunches.  Please make sure that your child has a lunch every day this week.  Thursday June 27 is a half day of school  Dismissal on Thursday is at 12:10 pm.  Buses will be picking up bus students so please make sure there is an adult to pick up your child at the bus stop shortly after 12:10 pm.  Students who walk will be picked up at the Primary Doors at 12:10 pm.  

Here are some other reminders:
1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle.
2) Please have your child dress appropriately for the weather.  Hats/sunscreen are a must.  Water too!
3) Any work sent home does not need to be brought back.
4) Please look for Library books.  We still have some outstanding.....:(
5) Read read read over the summer!
-read a variety of simple written materials for a variety of purposes
-read aloud in a way that communicates meaning
-read independently, using their reading strategies appropriate for their grade level
6) Write in a summer journal.  They need to Think it, say it, write it, and re-read it to make sense....:)
-express clear responses to written materials, relating the ideas in them with their own experiences
-restate information in a short non-fiction text in their own words
-retell a fiction story in proper sequence, identify the main idea and the characters and discuss some aspect of the story.
-work on neatness, sentence structure (capitals, periods), proper margin usage and proper formation of letters

reminders for the week of June 17-21

The Grade One Trip to Willowgrove Farm is on Monday, June 17.  Please remember to pack your child a litterless lunch and water!  Please dress for the weather as we are outside for the duration of the day.  Closed toed shoes/rubber boots and a hat are recommended.  If your child gets a Greek Lunch/or a bought lunch that day, please provide your child with a lunch and upon our arrival back to school, they will receive their lunch and milk too.  Please have your child come to school on time that day.  The bus leaves promptly at 9:30am.  Any late arrivals will have to stay back at school.  Parent helpers will be on the bus with us!  

Here are some other reminders for the upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle.
2) Please remember to check your house for any library books. We have some overdue books outstanding....:(
3) We will have a Library visit from the Aurora Public Library on Friday.  There are so many fun things going on at the Library this summer. Check it out at their website for upcoming events!  Read, Read, Read!!!  Keep up their weekly reading/writing and this will allow for a smooth transition in September. 
4) Please dress your child appropriately for the weather, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and water is recommended.
5) Frozen Yogurt is no longer being sold at recess.
6) Any work sent home does not need to be returned to school.  We are finishing up curriculum and working on a year in review. 
We have worked hard this year in all areas of the curriculum.  I am very proud of how far they have come!  Wishing you all a very happy Father's Day weekend with your children!

Reminders for the week of June 10-14

Hello Families!
There's lots happening this week.  Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather and have appropriate outdoor footwear.  Water bottles, hats and sunscreen too!  Here are a few reminders for the upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle.
2) Monday is Fire Prevention Education Day.  Stay posted and ask your child all about it!
3) Jump Rope for Heart is on June 12.  Please make sure we have gym shoes, hat and water!
4) SPIRIT DAY is on June 13.  The theme is BEACH DAY!
5) ALL LIBRARY BOOKS are DUE BY FRIDAY JUNE 14.  Please look for books over the weekend and return as soon as possible.  Thank you!

what's happening June 3-7

Hello Families:
Please note that Monday June 3 is a PA Day.  There is no school.  School will resume on Tuesday June 4.
1) Tuesday June 4 is Day 5 of our cycle
2) Library is on Wednesday Day 1.  Please take some time to look around your house for Library books.  We have some overdue books.  We will have only 1 more week of Library sign out times.  I will be sending you some information about summer reading shortly.  All library books are due back to the Library by Friday, June 14.
3) There are no MWW words this week
4) Please dress your child appropriately for the weather and have appropriate indoor/outdoor footwear.  Hats and sunscreen too!
5) Hansen Palooza is on Friday June 14 from 3:30-8:30pm.  Please come by and enjoy the festivities. 
Passes to games are sold on school cash online.  If you can help out, please let the office staff know and they will direct you to the appropriate resources.

Hello Families:
Thank you for all those who have supported our initiative of the 'Junk Food Lovers Basket'.  Your cash donations and items are greatly appreciated.  Keep them coming.  All proceeds go to our school!  Please note the following, we are still seeking volunteers and all day passes can be purchased on school cash on line.  Please read below.
Hansen Palooza is on Friday June 14 from 3:40p – 8:30p.
All-Day Passes can be purchased in advance using School Cash Online for a discounted cost of $15.45 each (incl. bank processing fees). Alternatively, passes can also be purchase during the event for $20 each and individual tickets are available for $1 each.
All-Day Passes allow UNLIMITED use of inflatable rides as well as FIRST applications of a face painting, tattoo and henna!
Many other exciting activities are planned for Hansen Palooza this year including great music, Classroom Baskets, the Silent Auction, various demonstrations, games, tons of prizes and of course, many yummy treats too!
The deadline for all Pre-Order Passes is 12-noon, Friday June 7.
Unfortunately, there can be NO EXCEPTIONS beyond this deadline.
Please note, pre-ordered All-Day passes will be distributed home with students (as names are detailed online when purchasing) the afternoon of the event. Also, in the unlikely event that there be high winds during the event, the inflatables will be temporarily unavailable to ensure the safety of participants.Rain or shine!

All money raised will help support the academic, literacy, arts and athletic programs at our school. This is a RHPSPAC Fundraising Event.

ALSO : Volunteers are still needed to run this event. If you can volunteer your time that night, please speak to the office staff and they will inform you as to what to do. WE so NEED your help and appreciate it too! There are several time slots to meet your needs.

1) Next week is BIKE TO SCHOOL WEEK! Instead of walking or driving ....ride your bike. Don't forget your helmet!

Reminders for the week of May 21-24

Hello Families!
Yesterday the Palooza note went home about our basket.  Our class has the JUNK FOOD LOVERS basket.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could contribute a NEW item valued at $10 or more towards our basket.  Alternatively a $10 cash donation is also accepted.  The deadline for donation is FRIDAY MAY 31. These baskets are very popular and help support the academic, literacy, arts and athletic programs at RHPS.  All baskets will be displayed outside the Learning Commons on Tuesday, June 11.  Come and see which one you want to try and win!  Your support is greatly appreciated!  If you could donate some of your time to some of the events, please speak to the office or to any parent on Parent Council  There are 3 time slots available to meet your needs.

Reminders for the week of May 13-17

Hi Families!
We want to wish all our Mom's a Happy Mother's Day!  We worked hard on your gift and made it all with love!  We hope you find some time to relax on Sunday!
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle and it's Library.  Keep up the daily reading.  We are using our strategies to decode unfamiliar words and are using expression too!  I am so proud of how far we have come!
2) Please sign and return the yellow Health Form as soon as possible  Thank you!
3) Grade One Trip form is paid on school cash on line and the white form is due back to school as well.  Thank you!
4) Tuesday and Thursdays is Tuck Shop.  Popcorn and treats are sold for $1
5) MWW worksheet is due by Friday
6) JUMP ROPE for HEART folders went home yesterday.  There are prizes for dollar amounts.  All proceeds go to funding for Heart research.  Hand in as soon as possible. Our Jump Rope Day is in June.
7) Our Palooza is on June 14.  If you could donate your time to help out with an event, your time would be greatly appreciated.  There are 3 time slots available.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the office or any parent on parent council.  We are seeking help especially for the inflatables

reminders for the week of May 6-10th

Hello Families!
For the month of May, we are learning about the Character Trait Perseverance.  We will stick to a goal and finish what we started even if no one is watching!  We are now reading to self for a stamina of 13 minutes!  Keep up the daily reading!
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week:
1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle and it's Library
2) We will be celebrating our Wellness Day school wide on Tuesday, May 7.  We will be engaging in various activities throughout the day around 'Wellness'
3) We will have our Jump Rope for Heart kick off on May 9.  Look for the Heart and Stroke Fundraiser envelope next week.
4) SAVE THE DATE:  Our Hansen Palooza is on Friday, June 14 and if you have any items for the Silent Auction, any donations would be appreciated.  An email blast went out last week regarding this. 
5) Grade One's went home with a Trip form for Willowgrove Farm on June 17.  Please fill out the second sheet and send back to school as soon as possible.  All payments are made on school cash on line.  If you can assist with the trip that day, we would LOVE to have you with us.  We have spots for 2 parent helpers.  Please make sure that you have an up to date Vulnerable Sector Screening that is submitted to the office.  You can speak to any secretary to assist you with this.

Hello Families!
We have an exciting week ahead of us.  We have the opportunity to see the Scholastic Book Fair on Monday, April 29 from 12:20-12:40.  The Book Fair runs all week at Rick Hansen in the Learning Commons.

Another great event happening at our school is a play put on by students in Grade 4-8 called "Into the Woods Jr". - a twisted play about fairy tales

When: Wednesday May 1st and Thursday May 2nd at 6:30pm.

Tickets are FREE!!!
Come out and support the students at Rick Hansen Public school!

Reminders for the week of Apr.23-26

Please note that there is no school of Friday, April 19 and Monday, April 22.  School will resume on Tuesday, April 23.
1) Tuesday is Day 2 of our cycle
2) Our Poetry Folder went home this weekend.  It is due on Tuesday.
3) Earth Day is April 22 - We have been learning how to take care of our Earth and things we can do at school and at home to help our environment.  Please take a moment on Monday to discuss with your child their feelings and thoughts about making our Earth healthy.
4) Popcorn is sold every Tuesday and Thursday for $!
5) Please speak to your child about likes and dislikes about their snacks and lunches.  Some bought lunches through school services they do not like.  I always encourage them to talk with you and try what is given. 
6) If you are doing some Spring cleaning please consider donating gently used clothes and shoes you do not need anymore to the Grade 8 Give Back Program.  Thank you for you support with this.   It is greatly appreciated!

Reminders for the week of April 15-18

Hello Families!
Please remember that there is no school on Friday, April 19, it is Good Friday.  Also, please note that there will be no MWW Words this week, since it's a short week...:)
1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle
2) Library is on Thursday Day 1.  Keep up the reading.  We have grown so much and are making leaps and bounds with our comprehension, reading levels and expression!  I am so proud of all of them!
3) Popcorn is sold for $1 on Tuesday and Thursday
4) Please have your child dress for the weather, it seems to change daily.  Spring cannot make up it's mind!
5) The Grade 8's are still collecting gently used clothing and shoes for their Give Back program.  Thank you for all who have contributed to this!  Your generosity is greatly appreciated!  This program runs until May long weekend.

4) Our Library Day exchange will be on Day 2 (Friday) next week.  We should be aiming to read for at least 10-20 minutes everyday.

Reminders for the week of April 1-5

Hello families, I can't believe it's April already!  Time has flown by.  Remember that EARTH HOUR is Saturday, March 30 from 8:30-9:30pm.  We turned off the lights today from 1-2pm at school!
 Here are some reminders for the upcoming school week.
1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle
2)Tuesday is Autism Awareness  Day, please wear BLUE!
3) Wednesday is Walk to School Day.  We are also having a SPIRIT DAY, we are wearing RAINBOW COLOURS!
4) For the month of April in honor of Earth Day, which is on April 22, we are learning to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  Please try and send with your child resuable containers for their snacks and lunches.
5) Please note that the new Milk, Greek Lunch and Pizza Lunch list is now up and running.  If you did not reorder please provide a lunch for your child on those days
6) Beyblades are not allowed at school anymore.  There have been several incidences outside that have caused problems.  Please speak to your child about this and keep them at home.  Thank you for your cooperation with this.
7) April newsletter went home today, please take a moment and read it with your child to see what we will be learning this month
8) Popcorn is sold for $1 every Tuesday/Thursday at snack recess
9) READ, READ, READ, we are learning to read with expression and note punctuation too.  We should be reading daily for at least 10 minutes and reviewing our MWW words too.
10) Grade 8 - Give Back Program- The Grade 8's are asking us to bring in unwanted clothes and shoes to help with their donations to the Salvation Army and Soles for Soles.  This initiative is running until May long weekend.  If you could help them with this, please bring in anytime between now and May long weekend.  Thank you!

Reminders for the week of March 25-29

Hi Families!
Welcome to Spring!  With Spring comes all types of weather, especially mud!  We love mud and sometimes we get muddy too.  Please make sure that your child has extra clothes at school for those occasional accidents.  Indoor shoes are required at school and please make sure that their indoor shoes still fit too.  Here are some reminders for the upcoming week.

Reminders for the week of March 18-25th

Happy Woman's Day to all our moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, friends and daughters!

Please remember that next week is MARCH BREAK and there is NO SCHOOL.  SCHOOL will resume on Monday, March 18th.

1) Monday, March 18 is Day 3 of our cycle
2) Clocks change 1 hour ahead on Sunday.  We are entering Day light savings time!
3) Read, read, read over the March Break!  Write too!  We are learning to read with expression and writing with punctuation.  We need to Think it, Say it, Write it and re-read it to make sense.  
4) We brought our indoor shoes home to check to see if they still fit.  We are growing like weeds!
5) Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather.  We are outside weather permitting for 2 recesses.  Have extra clothes at school too! 
6) Please speak with your child as to what they like to eat and their snacks.  I always encourage them to try and eat what is given.   
7) As communicated in the weekly E-blasts, please take note that the Milk and Lunch (Greek and Pizza)Programs for Term 3 are now available for purchase on School Cash. 
All orders are due TODAY, March 8, 2019.
Term 3 lunches will be delivered beginning Monday, March 25, 2019 and continue until Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Reminders for the week of Mar 4-8

Hello Families!
Welcome to March!  Please note that March Break is from March 11-15 and school begins on Monday, March 18.  It will be a Day 3 of our Cycle.
Here are some reminders for the upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle
2) Wednesday is Walk to school day
3) It's a SPIRIT DAY on Wednesday and the theme is DRESS like your FAVOURITE movie, book or tv character
4) Grade 2's will be going to VORC on Wednesday, March 6.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a litterless lunch too
5) Please make sure that the Grade 2's are at school on time on Wednesday. The bus leaves the school at 9:30am and will return by 3pm
6) Popcorn is sold every Tues/Thurs for $1
7) March newsletter will be handed out on Monday, March 4.  Please take a minute to review our learning goals for the month.  We are learning lots and having fun too!

We had a great day exploring activities around our Winter Carnaval!  Ask us all about Bonhomme!

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.  Please make sure we have appropriate foot wear for Gym.  Our feet are growing fast, please check with your child if their indoor shoes still fit. :)
2) Feb. 27 - is Bully Prevention Day.  It is also wear PINK Day to stand up against bullying.
3) M.W.W. will be due on Friday of next week.
4) Library is on Thursday.  Please check around your home for books.  Some of us have overdue books.  We are doing a classroom check on Monday too.

Next week we will be participating in our Winter Carnival.  It is going to be so much fun!  On Friday, February 22, we will be participating in outdoor activities.  Please remember to have your child dress appropriately to be outside.  Extra mitts will be helpful that day!

Reminders for the week of Feb. 11-15th

We've had a great week learning about Lunar New Year and being involved in various activities.  The Lion Dance performance was incredible!  We also did great at reading our poems at our Poetry Cafe this week too!
Here are some helpful reminders for the upcoming week.
1) Grade 2 Trip will be rescheduled.  Date to be determined still.  As soon as I know, I will inform you.
2) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle
3) Tuesday is our 100th day of school!  We will be engaging all day in activities around 100!  It is going to be so much fun!
4) Valentine's Day is Thursday.  Last week I sent home a February newsletter which had all the children's names on it and various teachers who teach us too.  If you need another one, please let me know.  Please do not send in any treats to share that day with others
5) Popcorn will be sold Tuesday/Thursday for $1
6) Library will be on Wednesday, Day 1 of our cycle.
7) Carnaval Kick Off is on Friday next week.  Keep posted for some fun activities the following week.

Reminders for the week of Feb.4-8

Welcome to February!
We have an exciting week ahead.  We will be engaging in Lunar New Year activities all week. Here are some reminders for the upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle
2) Popcorn will be sold for $1 on Tuesday and Thursday
3) Wednesday is Walking Wednesday and we will have a SPIRIT DAY- it will be TWIN DAY./FRIENDSHIP DAY. Children can dress up with a buddy as twins or favourite colour!
4) Grade 2 Trip to VORC is Wednesday, February 6.  PLEASE have your child dress appropriately for the weather.  Snowpants, boots, hats and mitts are requiredAlso, have a litterless lunch with snacks and a water bottle.  We will be engaging (weather permitting) outside throughout the day.  Buses will leave promptly by 9:30 so please be on time.  Late students will have to stay back at school  Buses will return back to school by 3pm.
5) Library books are due on Wednesday (Day 1), however, we will have our book exchange on Thursday Day 2.
6) M.W.W. will be due by Friday

Reminders for the week of Jan.28-Feb.1

Hello Families:
Please make sure that your children are dressed for outdoor weather.  There are guidelines that the board follows for inclement weather, however, if we're ok to go outside, appropriate winter wear must be worn.  Having extra mitts and clothes at school will be beneficial for those days we get wet.  Also, if buses are cancelled due to the weather, all children must be picked up at the Primary Doors by 3:40pm.  Thank you for your understanding with this.  You can always check if you are unsure, at www.schoolbuscity.com or our school website.  A notification will be alerted on the school website.

Reminders for the week of Jan.21-25

Hello Families!
Here are some reminders for the upcoming week ahead.
1) Thursday is Electives Day- we're going skating!  Please make sure that skates are in a bag and your child has a CSA approved helmet.  We will need a lunch that day as PIZZA DAY is moved to Friday.  
2) Please dress appropriately for the outdoor weather on Thursday as we will be participating in some exciting outdoor activities.  
3) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle.
4) Library is on Tuesday, Day 1.
5) Popcorn will be sold on Tuesday for $1.
6) If you drop off your child's lunch at school, please make sure that it is there by 1pm.  Have your child plan their lunches with you so they know what they are getting and extra hands are always helpful! :)

Reminders for the week of Jan.14-18

Welcome to Winter everybody!  Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for outdoor weather.  We need indoor shoes too.  Having extra socks, clothes, mitts and hats will be beneficial too.
We are working hard and learning lots.  Grade 1 and Grade 2 is going by fast.  Here are some reminders for the upcoming week.

2) Grade 2 'Seasonal Celebrations' Project is due on Monday.  They will be practicing presenting on Monday and will present on Tuesday.
3) Grade 1's are building their 'Timeline' Booklets and will be presenting them next week too.
