reminders for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 4

Hello Families;
It was so lovely to see all of  you on Thursday night.  The children were so happy they could share their classroom with you.  The package that was sent home has all the pertinent information regarding our programming throughout the year.  Please note that the planning could change based on our learning needs as we grow and learn together.  Here are some helpful reminders for our upcoming week.
1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle and it is WEAR ORANGE DAY.  We will be wearing orange because every child matters!
2) Tuesday is Day 5 and it's Library day!  Your child will be coming home with one picture book and one levelled reader.  Please try and read for a minimum of 10-20 minutes nightly.
3) Wednesday is Walk to school day, please consider parking your car farther away and walk your child to school.  Have fun chatting together too.
4) We will be engaging in Bus Safety on Friday.  Ask us about it on Friday night.
5) Our M.W.W. words for Week #2 are: (sight words and short a words)

Remember that the activity sheets are due back on Friday.
6) Please have your child read their Friday Letter to you and respond.  They love seeing your messages!
7) Read over the weekend :)

Reminders for the week of Sept. 23

Hello Families:
Today in your child's Bee bag their Poetry Folder went home.  It is to be completed and returned on Tuesday.  Please have your child read their Friday Letter too.  We focused on who we played with this week. 
Here are some other reminders for the upcoming week.
1) No school on Monday )
2) Tuesday is Day 5 of our cycle and it's Library day.  Keep logging their reading with filling up the 10 frame too.  Levelled Readers will be sent home next week with a picture book.  A reading note will be with it for recommendations for your child as well as Board expectations by the end of Grade One.  
3) Our Terry Fox Walk is on Thursday, September 26 in the morning.  Please dress your child appropriately for the weather that day. 
4) We are asking for Toonies for Terry if you are able.  All proceeds go to Cancer Research.
5) There are online donations available through school cash online.
6) Curriculum night is on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 6-7pm.  All are welcome and come and see what is happening in Room 214!

Reminders for the week of Sept.16-20th

Hello Families!
We finished our first full week of Grade One!  We are getting used to our schedule and our routines.  Here are some helpful reminders for our upcoming week.  Remember that the Sharing Star is due on Monday, September 16, 2019.

1) Monday is Day 5 of our cycle and it's Library Day!  Please return the library book in the bag and don't forget to fill in the bookmark too. :)
2) We wrote our Friday Letter today.  Please remember to read it with your child and comment too :)  Please return it on Monday.
3) On Monday you will receive a Folder called M.W.W. (Making Words Work).  In it are our words of the week.  The activity sheet is given on Monday and is due on Friday.  There will be NO dictation of the words at the end of the week.  We will be working with the words in various activities throughout the week.  There will be no M.W.W. words on short weeks.  Those are weeks with PA days or holidays.

4) Please have your child dress for the weather.  We are outside for 2 recesses weather permitting.
5) Save the dates:
Terry Fox Walk- Thursday, September 26 @ 9:30 a.m (dress for the weather that day). Pledges are ONLY accepted on-line and it is our hope that each student brings in a Toonie for Terry.  Pledges and donations are being accepted until Wednesday, October 2, 2019.  An email was sent out on Sept.10 with a link to donate.
Curriculum Night- Thursday, September 26 from 6-7pm.
Orange Shirt Day- September 30.  Orange shirt day is the legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school.  It grew out of Phyllis' Story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission.  We wear Orange that day to remember and keep the discussion going to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying.
6) PA Day- Monday, September 23, 2019.  No school that day.

News for our second week of school!

We had a great first week of Grade One.  We learned about rules and routines. It may seem overwhelming right now, but soon routines will set in.  We also met our new teachers and new friends.  Today I sent home our Timetable.  We work on a 5 Day Cycle.  Not Monday to Friday.  I will always update on the blog for you what day of the cycle it will be on Monday.  Also read the AGENDA every night to keep you updated on any events or reminders for Library books etc.
Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.
1)  Monday is Day 5 of our cycle and we'll be going to the Library
2) Please make sure you have signed and sent in the Book of Forms, Verification Form, Gym note and $5 for an agenda by Monday, September 9.    Agendas are an essential part of our communication this year.
3) We wrote our Friday Letter today in class.  Please make sure to read with your child and return on Monday. 
4) Save the date:  Our annual Terry Fox Walk is on Thursday, September 26.  More to follow.

Welcome to Grade One!

Hello and happy September.  I am so happy to have your children in my class and am looking forward to an exciting year getting to know you and your child.  Here are a few helpful reminders to make a smooth transition for the next few weeks.  It may seem overwhelming for you and your child right now but soon routine will set in. 

1) AGENDAS are an essential part of our communication this year.  They are purchased at school for $5.  CASH only please.  We will be using these daily and starting this week.  
2) SCHOOL FORMS were sent home on the first day of school.  Please review all and fill in the appropriate locations.  They are due back by Monday, September 9.
3) My parent newsletter was sent home on the first day of school too, please read and keep as a reference.  It explains a lot of expectations.  I will not be sending home a monthly calendar.  You will be receiving newsletters on our programming monthly and at the beginning of every unit we do in all subject areas. 
4) You will be receiving a parent questionnaire later this week and our daily timetable.  Please fill out and send back to school the week of September 9. 
5) If your child takes the bus, they will  be receiving a bus tag that will be put on their backpack.  All grade ones who take the bus will be escorted daily by the Grade 8's to their bus at the end of the day.
6) If your child is being picked up by you or another caregiver, please be at the Primary Doors by 3:40pm daily. If your child is not picked up by 3:55 pm they will be escorted to the office for pick up.
7) Our school day starts promptly at 9:10am and ends at 3:40pm. 
8) If you have a change in routine, please do not hesitate to inform me.  You can reach me via email
