Our week for January 9-13 2023

 Hello Families:

I hope you all weathered the storm yesterday safely! Here are some reminders of our upcoming week when we return in the New Year.

1) Monday January 9 is a Day 5 of our cycle.

2) Library Day is Day 2 on Wednesday.

3) We went home with our Poetry Folders.  Please return on Monday January 9

4) We went home with Santa's Beard.  We will be learning about Acts of Kindness in the New Year.  Have fun trimming his beard with acts of kindness over the break. 🎅

Our week for December 19-23

 Hello Families:

Our week for December 12-16

 Hello Families:

There is a lot happening at our school next week.  

The Student Council have been busy organizing the food drive and candy grams this month. 

The Food Drive has already started and thank you to those that have already donated. 
Next week each day will be dedicated to a different food group to support healthy eating habits.

Monday, December 12 - proteins (canned meats, beans, tuna)
Tuesday, December 13 - cereals and grains (rice, granola bars, baby foods)
Wednesday, December 14th - canned fruits
Thursday, December 15th - pastas and sauce
Friday, December 16 - canned Vegetables
Monday, December 19th - Last day - bring in anything!!

Candy Gram sales will start on Monday at lunch recess in the front lobby and will run all week. Students will have the opportunity to purchase a candy cane - message. They can fill this out and leave it with a student council member. Students will need to know their classroom number.  Our classroom number is 214.
This candy gram can be for themselves or for a friend. 
We would like to limit the purchase to 5.
The reindeer candy canes will be delivered the week of December 19th to 23rd.

2) Library is on Wednesday Day 2.  We will get new books and levelled readers

Our week for December 5-9 2022

 Hello Families:

We have a lot happening at our school next week.  Monday will be Day 5 of our cycle.

1) Food Drive all week long ( Food Drive runs until December 21) Non perishable foods only please.

2) Save the Date!  Winterfest is on Friday December 9.  

This event is a healthy, active and fun way to promote school spirit. All classes will participate at scheduled times throughout the day. Our DJ will be there spinning all the top tunes for the kids. 

Below is the time your child’s class will participate in the Dance: 

Kindergarten 9:25am – 9:55am 

Primary (grades 1-3) 10:00am – 10:45am 

Junior (grades 4-6) 11:30am – 12:15pm 

Intermediate (grades 7-8) 12:15pm – 1:00pm 

We will be selling popcorn at the event for $2.50. We will have Butter & Salt and White Cheddar flavours available. Glow Sticks will also be available to purchase for $1. Thank you for your support!

3) Book Fair for us is on Wednesday there will be no book exchange that day.  Book Fair will be open until 7 pm that night only.

Our week for Nov.28-Dec.2

 Hello Families:

Today your child went home with their Friday Letter and Poetry Folder.  Please have them read both and complete the Poetry activity and return back on Monday.

Here are a few reminders for our upcoming week.

3) Please send lots of snacks for us during the day we are growing!

4) Our Gym Days are Day 3 & 4, please make sure we have appropriate footwear to participate, we cannot participate in our Winter boots.

Our week for Nov. 21-24

 Hello Families:

Your children all went home with their BEE bags with a lot of materials.  If there is no strike on Monday, please return it all.  We will need it at school.  If we are online, please make sure your child has a place where they can keep all materials to be successful for their day.  

This week you will be able to access your child's Progress Report Card via your child's gapps account.  All students have their username and password in their agendas.  Please feel free to ask if you need them again.  Learning Skills are a key component to all of the Report Cards in Grade One.

In YRDSB, we focus on six specific learning skills and work habits. In class, students can expect to refer to them as we celebrate what is done well, and move toward setting goals and improving areas that may need more attention.  

Some examples of what teachers look for when assessing learning skills and work habits:

Our week for November 14-17

 Hello Grade One Families:

We had a lot of fun learning about Remembrance Day this week.  We have a poem that we will read to you and we need to practice printing it all out with our best printing.  Lest we forget.

Our poetry folder is due back on Monday.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle

2) There will be no MWW (Making Words Work) words this week, it's a short week.  Friday is a PA Day.

3) Library is on Tuesday (Day 2) of our cycle.

4) Interviews are being held on Nov.17 (pm) and Nov.18 (am).  Interviews were set up through EDSBY and are scheduled for 10 minutes in length.

4) Please have your child read their Friday Letter to you as well.

5) Our Assessment Folders went home today, please look at all the amazing work we have been doing.  Please return on Monday.

 Hello Grade One Families:

Monday will be asynchronous learning.  Which means work will be posted and there will be no live google meets.  All students have their username and password in their agendas.  You will need that to access your child's google account to sign into our google classroom.  Please accept the invite via your child's gapps account.  Tuesday November 8 will be a live synchronous learning day and it will be Day 2 of our cycle.  I will see everyone live at 9:10 am on Tuesday November 8!

Our week for Oct 31- Nov.4

 Hello Families:

On Monday October 31st we will be engaging in Halloween Curriculum activities all day.  Your child can come to school dressed in their costumes or wear Fall Colours.  Please refer to the Halloween letter for any specific enquiries.  We have 20 students in our class.  10 boys and 10 girls.

Here are some other reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.

2) Library is on Tuesday Day 2.  Please return the Picture book and leveled reader so that we can continue to read  books  at our instructional level.  Don't forget to Log our reading too.  Our November Reading log will be sent home on Tuesday.

3) Gym is Day 3 & 4, please dress appropriately to participate and have extra clothes at school for those occasional accidents.  

4) Our Poetry Folders went home on Friday, please have your child read the poems and complete the activity sheet.  Please send back on Monday with their Friday Letter too.

Our week for October 24-28

 Hello Families:

Diwali greetings to all who celebrate.  I wish you a prosperous, healthy, and happy Diwali.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.

2) Tuesday is Library Day and leveled readers will go home.  Your child will have one leveled reader and one picture book.  I strongly encourage daily reading of the leveled reader to work on our decoding and comprehension skills.  Don't forget to log it too!

Hello Grade One Families:

It was so nice to see all of you at Meet the Teacher Night on Wednesday.  We were so happy to share our classroom home with you!

Please note that Friday October 21 is a PA Day there is no school that day. Here are some reminders for our upcoming week:

1) Monday is Day 2 of our cycle and it's Library Day too.  Levelled readers will go home next Day 2.

2) Our Gym Days are Day 3 and Day 4.  Please wear appropriate footwear to participate fully.

3) Wednesday October 19 is Take Me Outside Day.  Please dress appropriately to go outside on an adventure weather permitting that day.

4) Thursday is PURPLE DAY.  We are wearing purple to show support for 2SLGBTQ+.

6) Our Friday Letter and our Poetry folders are due back read and completed on Monday.

 Hello Families:

We had a great week of learning about Terry Fox and Orange Shirt Day.  Ask us all about it!  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week:

Our Week for September 26-30

 Hello Families:  HAPPY FALL 🍂

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.

2) Poetry Folders went home on Thursday.  We are learning to read with phrasing and expression.  Please help support your child to complete the activity sheet and return on Monday.

3) Please read and return our Friday Letter as well.

4) We will start our MWW ( Making Words Work) on Monday.  You will receive their yellow duo tang with a supplementary worksheet inside.  Please help support your child to complete the work sheet and return back to school by Friday each week.  

5) Thursday September 29 is our Walk for Terry Fox.  Please have your child dressed to be outside weather permitting.

6) Friday September 30 we will be wearing Orange to celebrate Every Child Matters. Orange Shirt Day: is a day where communities come together in a spirit of reconciliation and hope because every child matters.

7) Library Day is Day 2 of our cycle.  Please return their Library bags each week so we can get new ones.  Leveled readers will be sent home later in October.

Save the date:  Wednesday October 12 is Curriculum Night.  Information has been sent out via Family Weekly from the school.

Our week for September 19-22

 Hello Grade One Families:

Your children went home with a Red Folder called Friday Letter.  In this folder you will see a letter written by your child and a note that explains its purpose as well.  Please take some time to read this letter with your child and respond if you can.  They will love to see what you have written each week. Please send back every Monday. 

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is a Day 4 of our cycle.  Please bring BEE (Bring Everything Everyday) bag back every day with your child's agenda inside.  

2) Friday September 23 is a PA Day.  There will be no school.  

3) Please note that in your child's agenda is their username and password for computer log in.  You will need this to access the School Start Up Forms which a link was emailed to you from YRDSB.  Please fill out promptly.  If you require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.  

4) Agendas are $6 and can be bought on school cash online.  

5) Sharing Stars are due back on Monday September 19.

6) Extra clothes can be kept at school.  Please label clearly and place in a zip lock bag for safe keeping.  

7)  Library is Day 2 of our cycle and we will be bringing home some Picture books next week.

Hello and Happy September!

 Hello Grade One Families!

Welcome to Grade One!  Your child this week went home with a green bag called a BEE bag (Bring Everything Everyday).  Please make sure you empty it every day and look for important notes or work that has been sent home. Please return the BEE bag daily with your child.  Next week I will send home our timetable.  I send monthly newsletters only.  I do not send monthly calendars.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) A welcome letter was sent home this week.  Please read for important reminders in our classroom and in our school.

2) A parent survey went home this week.  Please fill out and send back to school by Friday September 16.

3) Sharing Star:

This star is to be filled out with your child about themselves.  A letter was sent home with the star to explain it.  Please send back with your child by September 19.

4) Agendas:  Agendas are a very important means of communication this year at school.  They are $6 and can be paid through School Cash online.

5) Please send lots of healthy snacks, water, indoor shoes and extra clothes that can be kept at school or in their backpacks.

Our last week of school June 27-30

 Hello Families:

Please note that our final day of school is Thursday June 30 @12:10pm.  Please pick up your child at the Primary doors at 12:10pm promptly.  All busses will be departing shortly after 12:10pm as well.  If your child attends daycare, daycare will be starting at 12:10pm as well.  

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 4 of our cycle.  

2) Please dress appropriately Day 4 and Day 5 so we can go play at the park for our Gym periods.

3) Our class party will take place on Wednesday June 29.  A letter went home with your child on Friday with information about our celebration.

4) Our Poetry Folders went home on Friday.

5) Assessment Folders went home on Friday and all work can be kept at home.

6) We will be bringing home various folders/work this week and all can be kept at home.

7) If you find any Library books at home, please return promptly.  

8) Please send your child to school with a hat, water bottle, lots of snacks (we're growing).  If you send sunscreen I will make sure they reapply before lunch time.

9) I will be sending home on Wednesday their indoor shoes and any extra clothing that they have at school.

Our week for May 16-20

 Hello Families:

As the warmer weather is upon us, please remember to send with your child daily (a hat, proper outdoor shoes, sunscreen too)  

As we are growing please remember to check with your child to see if their indoor shoes still fit.

Extra snacks too, we get hungry when we're learning lots!

Our week for May 9-13

 Hello Families:

Wishing all our MOMS a very Happy Mother's Day on Sunday.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week:

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle

2) We have Gym on Day 4 and Day 5

3) Library is on Day 4 which will be Thursday

4) Our MWW words for Week #22 are:

5) Cookies are on sale Tuesday/Thursdays $2 for 1 or $5 for 3

Please dress your child for the weather as we are outside weather permitting for 2 recesses.

Our week for May 2-6

 Hello Families:

Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate! 

We went home with our assessment folders.  Please note all the amazing work and learning targets we have achieved recently.  I always tell them to strive to do their best work always.  Please keep all work and send the folder back to school on Monday.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 1 of our cycle.

2) We will not be having Library next week as the Library is being used for Town Halls.  We will resume the following week.

3) Our MWW words for Week #21 are:

Grade 1: sight words and short a words

Our worksheet will be due back by Friday.

4) Cookies will be sold on Tuesday/Thursdays at Snack recess.  $2 for 1 or $5 for 3

5) Please check with your child if their indoor shoes still fit.  We are growing like weeds!  Also please label all children's clothing as we have similar or the same sized items.

Our week for April 19-22

Hello Families:

Please note there is no school Friday April 15 and Monday April 18.  School will resume on Tuesday April 19.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Tuesday is Day 2 of our cycle

2) Thursday is Library Day- Day 4

3) There will be no MWW words for the week

4) Tuesday and Thursday's there will be cookies sold to help support the Grade 8's raising money for their Grad.  Cookies will be sold at morning recess only starting on Thursday April 21.

$2 for one cookie and $5 for 3 cookies  

5) Friday is Earth Day and we will be participating in a story walk.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the day.

Our week for April 11-14

 Hello Families:

We will be celebrating National Pink Day on Wednesday April 13. The International Day of Pink is a worldwide anti-bullying and anti-homophobia day.  We are encouraged to wear PINK that day to show our support.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.

2) Tuesday is Day 4 and it's Library Day.

3) We went home with our Poetry Folders.  Please support them in reading the Poem with phrasing and expression too.  On the back they are to draw what they love to do with their families outside.

4) There is no MWW words for this week or next, they are both short weeks with Good Friday and Easter Monday.

5) There will be no school this coming Friday April 15 it is Good Friday.

Our week for April 4-8

4) Our Assessment folders went home on Friday and everything can be kept at home.

Our week for March 28- Apr. 1

Hello Families:

We had great week of learning! Today we went home with our Poetry Folders. They will be due back on Monday.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle.

2) Tuesday is Library Day.

3) Our MWW words for Week #18 are:

Our MWW worksheet will be due back on Friday.

4) Wear BLUE on Friday to recognize World Autism Day.  

World Autism Awareness Day focuses on raising the awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and improving the lives of those currently living with autism. This day was designated by the United Nations in 2007 in an effort to end stigmatization and discrimination against those with autism. 

This year World Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd. Please visit Autism Ontario World Autism Day events and activities: Celebrate the Spectrum.

5) Please speak with your  children about likes/dislikes for their lunches. I encourage as best as I can to eat what is provided.  

Also please have extra clothes at school as the wet weather is now upon us.

Our Week ahead for March 21-25

 Hello Families:

March Break is from March 14- March 18.  There will be no school.  Classes will resume on Monday March 21. 😄  Remember that clocks change ahead on Sunday March 13. ⏰

Here is some reminders for our upcoming week.  

1) Monday March 21 is Day 3 of our cycle.

2) Library will be on Tuesday March 22 and it's Day 4 of our cycle.

3) Poetry Folders went home today and all your child has to do is read the poem I can use my words in a spoken word voice.  There is no activity sheet attached to this poem.

4) St. Patrick's Day is on March 17.  We read How to Catch a Leprechaun.  We talked about what simple machines and structures we could use to catch one too!  

5) Our MWW words for Week #17 are:

Grade 2: now down how out shout about our house slow show Bonus: know knew

Our worksheet will be due back by Friday.

6) Please make sure your child's indoor shoes fit and extra clothes at school are helpful too!

Our week for March 7-11

 Hello Families:

We will be having POPCORN sales all week at first recess only.  Popcorn can be bought for $2 all week long!  We also will be having a SPIRIT WEEK TOO!

MONDAY- Hat Day or Decorate  your Mask Day 🤠

WEDNESDAY- Rainbow Colour Day 🌈

FRIDAY- PYJAMA DAY! 😊

Here are some other reminders for our upcoming week:

3) MWW words  for Week#16 are:

4) Our Poetry Cafe is on Monday March 7.  Our classroom will magically turn into a Cafe and we will recite poetry.  Please have your child practice their poem over the weekend.  No need to memorize.  A rubric was sent home with their poetry cafe note.

Our Week for Feb 28- Mar. 4

 Hello Families:

We had a great week of learning about Pink Shirt Day.  We are not bullies because we are kind to others!  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle

2) Tuesday is Library Day 4.

3) Gym is on Day 4 and Day 5, please have indoor shoes!

4) Our MWW words for Week #15 are:

Our week for Feb 22-25

 Hello Families:

We will not have any MWW words this week, it's a short week.  We will be engaging in ACTS of KINDNESS every day.  National Pink Shirt Day is on Wednesday February 23.  We are encouraged to wear Pink to stand up to bullying.  

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday there is no school

2) Tuesday is Day 4 of our cycle and it's Library Day.

3) Please have extra clothes, mitts and masks at school at all times.  

4) Please ask your child if their indoor shoes still fit, we are growing!  We need indoor shoes everyday.

5) Please make sure you read and sign your child's agenda daily as pertinent information goes in there.

Our Week for February 14-18

 Hello Families:

We will be celebrating lots this upcoming week.  First, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Monday and on Friday February 18th, we will be celebrating our 100th Day of School!  It's going to be a great week of celebrating!

Please note that Friday February 4, 2022 is a PA DAY, there is no school or online learning.  Enjoy the day with your children.

Our Week for Jan. 31-Feb. 3

 Hello Families:

Today your child went home with their assessment folders.  All work can be kept at home.  We will be entering Term 2 now.  Report cards will be going home in February as well.  Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) There will be no MWW words this week.

2) It's a PA Day on Friday February 4, there will be no school or online learning either.

3) Please have your child dress appropriately for the weather as we are outside weather permitting for 2 recesses.  Please have extra clothes at school and masks too.

4) Our February newsletter will be going home next week too.  Please note we will be celebrating lots and having Term 2 expectations in all subject areas too.

Our week for January 10-13, 2022

 Hello Families:

This week we'll be online again.  We will have no MWW (Making Words Work) this week as Friday January 14 is a PA DAY.  

Our learning targets this week are:

1) Story Elements (Beginning, Middle, End)

- Character, Plot and Setting

2) We will be continuing our work on Place Value in Math

3) Social Studies- We will be exploring our Families/Traditions and us in our Community.  

We will review expectations for our on-line learning and do our best as if we were in the classroom.

On line learning

 Hello Families

Today the Government announced we will begin on-line learning on Wednesday January 5, 2022.  It will be Day 3 of our cycle.  I will do my best to transition everyone to a positive and fun and engaging environment.  Please try and have your child join promptly at 9:10 am to begin O' Canada and morning announcements.  If you require tech, please contact the school.
