Our week for Oct. 16-19

 Hello Grade One Families:

October 19 is Spirit Day, a day started in 2010 by Brittany McMillan, a Canadian teenager.

It has become an annual event in October when millions of North Americans wear purple to show their support for 2SLGBTQI+ youth and take a stand against bullying. Students, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals, celebrities, parents, and families wear purple to convey that 2SLGBTQI+ youth are to be celebrated and respected for who they are. The purple stripe on the pride flag represents spirit, giving this day its name.

We will wear PURPLE on Thursday.

Here are some reminders for our upcoming week.

1) Monday is Day 3 of our cycle

2) Library is on Tuesday Day 4

3) We went home with our Poetry Folders on Thursday.  Our Poetry Folder is due back completed on Monday.

4) Please return our Friday Letter too, we are learning to write a Recount of our week using a Graphic organizer.  We are learning to Think it, Say it, Write it and Re-read so our writing makes sense.

5) For Lesson #38 it is a review week in our Making Words Work.  We will be reviewing all words learned so far.  Our MWW worksheet will focus on Alphabetical order.  Our worksheet will be due back by Thursday this week.

6) Friday is a PA Day, there is no school that day.

I will be sending home later this week their Assessment Folders.  All work will be able to stay at home.  There will be some Grading Rubrics that you will need to sign and return.  I conference daily with the students on strengths, weaknesses and next steps in every subject.  We will be working on specific learning goals for Reading and Writing shortly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or write in your child's agenda.

Have a wonderful weekend with your children.
